Wilco Life Insurance Review (2024)
You cannot buy Wilco life insurance because the Wilco Life Insurance Company no longer writes new policies. Now owned by Wilton Reassurance Company Inc., what remains of Wilco only exists to pay out remaining life insurance policies purchased when the company was fully operational before 2007. At least three class-action lawsuits have been filed against Wilco, all alleging unfair policy increases that caused the insureds to surrender their policies prematurely.

What insurance products does Wilco offer?
Initially, Wilco sold term life insurance quotes, whole life insurance, universal life insurance, and equity-indexed universal life products.
However, a 2018 Report of Examination conducted by the Department of Insurance in Indiana reveals that Wilco Life Insurance Company no longer sells new life insurance products.
Therefore, you can no longer get any affordable Wilco life insurance quotes. There isn’t even a Wilco Life Insurance Company website.
According to the report, as of 2018, Wilco stopped actively marketing any new insurance products. As a result, all sales of life insurance products eventually ceased.
In fact, Wilco stopped writing new policies as far back as 2007.
Wilco might not sell any new insurance policies, but the company still has in-force business. In-force business refers to the dollar amount of paid-up and current policies a company carries.
For Wilco, these mostly consist of universal and traditional life insurance policies.
The company has exchanged hands a few times over the years, as well as changed names. Originally, Wilco was called Conseco and was a subsidiary of CNO Financial Group.
Now owned by the Wilton Reassurance Company Inc. (Wilton Re), the company is officially called Wilco Life Insurance Company.
Headquartered in Carmel, Indiana, Wilton Re provides reinsurance solutions through a variety of subsidiaries including Wilco. A customer service line is available on the Wilton Re website for folks who still carry a Wilco life insurance policy: 844-877-6907.
There is no Wilco life insurance company login or website, and anyone who carries a Wilco policy must go through Wilton Re for any guidance or assistance.

What is the history of Wilco Life Insurance Company?
As it turns out, Wilco Life Insurance Company has quite a complicated family tree. Initially, this company underwrote life insurance policies as a subsidiary of CNO Financial group under the name Conseco.
According to multiple sources, Conseco wrote individual traditional and interest-sensitive life insurance policies, as well as deferred annuities, with a focus on middle-class Americans.
But in 2007, Conseco Life Insurance Company sold most of its in-force life insurance holdings to Jackson National Life Insurance Company through a coinsurance agreement. (For more information, read our “Jackson National Life Insurance Company Review“).
In July of 2014, Wilton Reassurance Company Inc. acquired 100 percent of the company from CNO Financial. Wilton Re mostly took on business related to senior health insurance.
In 2015, Conseco officially changed its name to the Wilco Life Insurance Company. In fact, throughout the lifetime of the company, Wilco operated under three different names:
- Conseco
- Philadelphia Life
- Massachusetts General
Today, Wilton Reassurance Company, a Minnesota stock and life insurance provider, wholly owns Wilco Life Insurance Company as a subsidiary.
A separate entity based in Delaware, called Wilton Re U.S. Holding, Inc., owns the Wilton Reassurance Company. That company, in turn, is owned by a non-insurance holding company located in Canada called Wilton Re Limited.
As of 2018, there were no Wilco employees, and the company no longer sells new insurance policies.
People still covered by a Wilco life insurance policy can rely on Wilton Re for financial stability and the means to pay out their beneficiaries.
What class-action lawsuits does Wilco face?
Currently, Wilco Life Insurance Company, under its multiple names, faces a handful of class-action lawsuits.
Most surround alleged unfair increases in policy premiums, causing the insureds to surrender their life insurance policies.
Supposedly, thousands of previous clients potentially suffered policy losses.
The lawsuits include Burnett et al. v Conseco Life Insurance Company Inc., CNO Financial Group Inc., and SNO Services, LLC, filed in 2018, according to GovInfo.
According to the National Law Review, two more class-action lawsuits were filed alleging similar policy increases, one in 2019, called Anderson v. Wilco Life Insurance Co.
The second lawsuit filed in November 2020 is called West v. Wilco Life Ins. Co., according to Casetext.
What are the Wilco ratings and reviews?
While there are no Wilco Life Insurance Company ratings or reviews, we can look at the Wilton Re’s financial strength rating and reviews for a better idea of Wilco’s financial standings.
The company received an A+ A.M. Best financial score, implying that it’s in a strong financial position.
Folks who still carry Wilco coverage can rest easy knowing that the parent company can pay out death benefits when the time comes.
Customer reviews for Wilco appear to be average to negative, mainly due to the class action lawsuits.
However, the Better Business Bureau scored Wilco, under the BBB business profile of Conseco, with an A- rating.
