Great Western vs. United Home Life: What does each company offer?
As you compare Great Western vs. United Home life insurance companies, you will find that both have viable options for life insurance coverage.
Great Western Life Insurance Company, a part of Great Western Bank, offers the following options for life insurance:
- Final expense insurance
- Pre-need funeral insurance
- Group annuities
Great Western’s Final Expense Options
Great Western’s final expense insurance is intended to alleviate the burden of funeral costs and other end-of-life expenses that an individual’s family might incur when they pass away.
The beneficiary of the policy decides how the money is used, and funds can go to medical expenses, unpaid bills, or even something like a child’s or grandchild’s college tuition.
Great Western offers final expense coverage via two whole life plans: Assurance Plus and Guaranteed Assurance.
Assurance Plus is designed for those in good health who are looking for additional value. If you can answer “no” to a few simple health questions, you will qualify for a 25 percent increase in the full death benefit at the start of the policy.
Guaranteed Assurance provides coverage with absolutely no underwriting and no health questions to answer.
With the Guaranteed Assurance plan, if at any time a death occurs by accident as defined in the policy, the full death benefit will be paid. After the first two policy years, the full death benefit is paid regardless of how the death occurred.
Neither Assurance Plus nor Guaranteed Assurance requires a medical exam before extending coverage.
Great Western Pre-Need Coverage
Pre-need insurance is coverage sent straight to a funeral home. You decide the specifics of your service and the funeral home totals the costs.
Once this occurs, you will either receive a one-time bill or you will pay monthly installments toward the amount. Upon your death, the funds are used to pay the funeral home so your family doesn’t have to worry about the cost.
Great Western Group Annuities
Great Western’s Group Annuity Funding Agreement (GAFA) offers a fixed interest product to fund both qualified and non-qualified benefit plans. The distinctions between qualified and non-qualified policyholders are on the company’s website.
The GAFA offers extremely competitive interest rates and consistently credits rates based on the market when the policy is purchased.
United Home Life Insurance Products
United Home Life also offers whole and term life insurance, as well as accidental death and coverage specific to individuals with diabetes.
United Home’s whole life coverage options are as follows:
- Simplified Issue Whole Life: Consists of four products with varying levels of underwriting, based on a person’s health history, that can be custom-tailored to meet any and all coverage needs.
- Guaranteed Issue Whole Life: Offers coverage up to age 100 without any health questions or underwriting. You cannot be turned down due to your health, even if you’ve been denied coverage in the past.
United Home’s term life offers four separate options:
- Simple Term 20
- Simple Term 30
- Simple Term 20 ROP
- Simple Term 20 DLX
United Home also offers accidental death insurance, with up to $200,000 in coverage, to help pay for debt and other expenses in the event of a person’s passing.
Lastly, United Home offers life insurance coverage specifically for people who are diabetic. If you’re in the market for type 1 diabetes life insurance coverage, you can choose from either an Express Issue whole life plan or Simple Term 20 DLX.
Qualified policyholders can add or change coverage at any point by using their United Home Life login on either the company’s website or the app.
